Silent Auction of Collectible Books

The Friends of the Library are sponsoring a Silent Auction of Collectible Books to be held in the Library from Monday, November 1 to Wednesday, December 1.

There will be 16 books in the Display Case in the Main Room which will be available for closer inspection on Saturday November 6, November 13, and November, 20 from 1:00-2:00 pm. and on Wednesday, December 1 from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  A member of the Book Sale Committee will be present during those times and will be happy to help you.

Each book will be numbered with a corresponding number found on a bid sheet in the Friends notebook on the checkout counter.  Bids will be accepted until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1 and the highest bidder will win the auction.  If not present at that time, each winner will be notified by telephone the next day and will have 10 days to collect the book. All proceeds will be used for Library programs, services and acquisitions.

Among the selections are several Vintage books including: THE DEVIL UPON CRUTCHES FROM THE DIABLE BOITEUX OF MR. LESAGE (1759); STANFORD’S MAP OF THE BRITISH METROPOLIS AND SUBURBS: LONDON (1890); “OUR LIVING WORLD” A NATURAL HISTORY (1885); and DEFOE’S JOURNAL (1835).  

There is also a First Edition (#426 of 500), Signed copy of 999 NEW STORIES OF HORROR AND SUSPENSE (1999); and Signed copies of: ELOISE by Kay Thompson (signed by the illustrator Hilary Knight who is a resident of Sierra Madre); TURNING PAGES MY LIFE STORY by Sonia Sotomayor; SONG OF THE SWALLOWS by author/illustrator Leo Politi; and WITH KENNEDY by Pierre Salinger.
